Artificial intelligence is changing how insurance agencies operate, but is it actually saving time? And what does it mean for consumers?
Those questions are at the center of an October 12, 2026 national P&C Specialist article by Jennifer Ortakales Dawkins featuring Jamie Jones, Chief Marketing Officer of Orlando-based Sun Insurance Services.
The report, titled AI Promises to Save Insurance Professionals Time, But Some Power Users Are Working More, explores how insurance professionals use artificial intelligence and why frequent users sometimes end up working more, not less.
How AI Is Changing Our Insurance Agency
At Sun Insurance Services, AI has evolved from helping with individual tasks into a way to connect information, improve operational workflows, and reduce repetitive administration.
Our work includes connecting agency management information, communications, and marketing activity so the team can spend less time moving between disconnected systems.
As Jamie told P&C Specialist, AI has drastically changed her workflow over the last two years. Some technical projects that once required outside development assistance are now more approachable.
For a family-owned independent insurance agency serving Central Florida since 2003, the objective is to make our work more efficient while preserving the relationships on which the agency was built.
Why AI Cannot Replace the Judgment of an Insurance Agent
Consumers increasingly use AI to research coverage and prepare requests for quotes. Those tools can be useful, but an automated comparison may overlook details that make a significant difference when a loss occurs.
Someone searching for a lower homeowners insurance premium might not realize that changes to deductibles, exclusions, liability limits, or endorsements affect the protection they receive. Two policies with similar prices can respond very differently to the same claim.
“Most people don’t even realize what they need, but that’s what the agent is for.”
Jamie Jones, quoted in P&C Specialist
In Florida, comparing homeowners, auto, flood, and business insurance involves more than comparing price alone. A licensed agent can help explain coverage choices, limitations, and questions a consumer might not think to ask.
Is AI Actually Saving Insurance Professionals Time?
The P&C Specialist survey involved 105 respondents. Sixty percent reported using AI without considering their use excessive, while 6.7% said they spent too much time with AI tools and another 11.4% acknowledged sometimes going overboard.
The paradox is familiar: AI can make individual tasks faster, but it also makes more projects possible. Rather than reducing the workday automatically, it can encourage ambitious users to take on additional work.
For our agency, the right measure of success is not how much AI we use. It is whether technology reduces unnecessary steps, improves follow-through, and helps our team serve clients more effectively.
What AI Means for Sun Insurance Clients
- Better organized information: More connected records can help our team find relevant details without searching multiple systems.
- Less repetitive administration: Automated workflows can reduce manual data entry.
- More consistent follow-through: Operational tools can help track work that still needs attention.
- Human guidance: Our agents remain central to reviewing coverage options and explaining policy differences.
AI can make researching insurance easier. It cannot reliably determine whether an individual policy meets someone’s needs without accurate information and a careful review of the actual terms.
Insurance’s Future Needs Both Technology and People
At Sun Insurance Services, we want technology to support the work our people do, not replace the conversations that matter most. Our commitment remains helping Florida individuals, families, and businesses understand their options and make informed insurance decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions
How are insurance agencies using AI?
Insurance agencies can use AI to organize information, reduce repetitive tasks, and connect internal workflows. Licensed agents continue to help clients understand policies and coverage decisions.
Can AI compare Florida homeowners insurance policies?
AI can help organize information and explain terminology, but policy-specific coverage, deductibles, exclusions, and endorsements should be checked against actual policy documents with a licensed agent.
Does cheaper insurance always mean better value?
No. A lower premium may come with higher deductibles or more limited coverage. A meaningful comparison considers both cost and the protection described in the policy.
